A high-ranking Russian military figure has been fatally wounded following an detonation in Moscow, according to an investigative body.

The attack happened on Monday morning when an IED planted beneath a vehicle detonated, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.

Authorities stated that one theory under investigation involves the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has offered no public response.

Location of the Blast

Personnel have been dispatched to the location, which is said to be in a southern district of the city.

Media coverage suggest the explosion occurred in a parking area near a residential building.

Pattern of Assaults

Since the onset of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military officials have been attacked within Moscow.

This latest event echoes other high-profile incidents, including:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a device hidden on a scooter was detonated remotely.

While a source from Ukraine earlier connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are never formally acknowledged as a matter of policy.

The conflict has witnessed clandestine operations reaching into the heart of the Russian capital.

The probe into General Sarvarov's death remains underway.
