Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
