Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend following the team's 10-match winless start to the Premier League season.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the club ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton Town manager - who played more than 100 of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the club board as they begin the process of appointing a new head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock choice given he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United player is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any compensation.
