Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
It said missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
