The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:

  • Each team includes just eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
