The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
