The Reds Refuses to Abandon Attacking Style Amid Recent Slump, Insists Head Coach Slot
Arne Slot has stated that the team leadership agree with his assessment regarding the team's slump and he refuses to compromise their forward-thinking philosophy in search of a solution. The manager acknowledged that six defeats in seven matches was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Increasing Scrutiny During Tough Spell
Slot accepted the scrutiny was intense before his rotated squad suffered Carabao Cup elimination against their Premier League rivals. However, he emphasized that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the team's proprietors or football administration following a summer transfer outlay of almost £450m.
"They say similar things," commented the Liverpool boss, whose squad will encounter Los Blancos in the European competition and play against Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League.
Team Strength Continues Unchallenged
The coach is convinced his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are fully healthy and completely set for the programme we are facing". He noted that the transfer window acquisitions in players such as the German international and the Swedish striker, who is likely to miss out again against Villa through fitness issues, had left the club "in such a good place for the immediate prospects and the long-term future".
Integration Challenges
When asked why his team were taking so long to gel, he replied: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I offer insights and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can identify several explanations why we are struggling for victories or losing as much as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are never enough excuses to have a run of form as we had now."
- Regardless of whether I could list 200 excuses
- Leading this club you cannot lose
- The reality is six defeats in seven games
Defensive Statistics
Only the Clarets (twenty-one) have conceded more clear opportunities from regular play this season than Liverpool (nineteen). The table-toppers, Arsenal, have faced two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and maintains there is no justification to compromise forward-thinking approach for a defensive approach after ten matches without a shutout.
"In my view we're not conceding a lot of chances so I don't see a reason to modify our philosophy completely but we must improve in preventing goals," he stated.
Recent Examples
"Against Manchester United, how many chances did we concede? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were leading 3-1, we scarcely gave up a shot on target. In every match we have competed in we haven't given up a numerous openings. Absolutely not. We do give away a slightly more than last season but that stems from us being trailing by a goal so you play more openly. But in general I don't believe that our issue is that we concede too many chances. Our problem is we are unable to finish the chances we create."
