Tottenham Manager Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered goalkeeper Vicario were informed afterwards "they can't be real Spurs supporters" by boss Frank.
Spurs let in a pair of goals in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight at home defeat of 2025.
But the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' next score when Vicario lost the ball far outside his box.
The goalkeeper came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball towards the sideline.
But, instead of booting it out of play, the Italian spun and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
King passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the sideline recorded at 36.6 yards.
Moments later when the ball came to the keeper again, a number of Tottenham fans booed him.
Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.
A particular of those jeering episodes truly angered Frank.
"I heard some of our supporters apparently booed the incident and booed following, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be real Spurs fans that act that way. Alright jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are behind one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute lead before Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second period performance.
Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the next score was "totally preventable".
"I do understand the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the role the keeper is playing. He's a great squad member, he is a true figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning score."
'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game
Italian international Vicario is in his third campaign with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old said after the game that he had to accept the criticism.
"That goal was a error of mine, I accept accountability for it," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a bad way. That made an more difficult mountain to overcome."
He said receiving jeers "is part of football".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "We cannot be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.
"It is on us to stay increasingly calm, to focus on our own performance. We are missing in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a bad defeat and it's hard to accept."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Line'
Despite Vicario's mistake, it was not an simple goal for Wilson to score.
Actually it was the second longest-range top division score of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly too came on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.
Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and Wilson striking – which was 5 moments after the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the area for ages," Wilson said.
"It amazed me not one of the defenders went back to the goal line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a bit of extra time. After that it was solely about trying to achieve the correct contact and get it on target. I had a positive feeling, the moment it left my boot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Go Against You'
Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank
Although Vicario's mistake led headlines, this was an overall poor day for Tottenham to continue their home ground struggles.
This was their 10th at home defeat of the year in the Premier League, a shared club record matching 1994 and 2003.
The side still have home fixtures against the manager's former club Brentford and champions Liverpool to come prior to the end of the year.
Only one of those wins have come after Frank replaced his predecessor in the off-season.
"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated Frank.
"When you're in a poor run, all aspects seems to work against you as well – the first was a deflected attempt, the next is a error from Vic.
"This result leaves us in a place where we have lost an additional game. Each fixture has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the early stages.
"We just need to keep working. The second half was much better and with luck something we can utilize to learn."
Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a one campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Former Cottagers midfield player Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He's got take the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He has accepted a prestigious role at a huge team with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
